At the centre of the art and jewellery I have felt compelled to make, I always return to the following assertion: all things are delicately interconnected. A read thread winding its way between every topic I investigate and study, between the people I meet and the pieces of jewellery I create.
I'll admit that it is a rather large concept to distill into such tiny objects.

So, let me let you into my heart and share how I got here. All my life I have been looking for meaning, a reason for why I experience this life with such intensity and volatility. I have longed for a logical answer for why the rivers flow with such grace and beauty, for why my fingerprints look like the rings in a tree, for why the costal rocks look like images brought back to us by probes visiting other worlds, I have yearned to find meaning in the stars in the sky, why the sun shines and the moon glows.
If after my outburst of ill-grammared sentiment you are now expecting me to strike forth with a reason - I am sorry to disappoint you dear reader but I have not found one. What I have found is that there most likely isn't one - reason and meaning are, as far as we know anthropocentric ideas as opposed to universal ones.
However, that which I have teased from my search for meaning in a more than likely meaningless universe is this -
The natural world and its structural composition is undoubtedly governed by beautiful mathematics, you may have heard it called the Fibonacci Sequence or perhaps The Golden Ratio. This seeming disorder and chaos around us is not actually chaos at all, but an arrangement.
The alveoli of your lungs look like the tree tops from above, the geological textures you can see on cliff faces of our coastlines look like the rocky textures of the moon or mars. The way that autumn leaves twirl in a wind vortex echoes the way our solar system, our earth is moving through the vacuum of space.

It is from these observations of repeating patterns and motion that I have aligned my art with the concept of the sublime.
The enduring definition of the sublime is that it refers to a greatness beyond all possibility of calculation, measurement or imitation. And through my art I have channeled this essence of greatness through the lens of mother nature much like the 19th century Romantics.
As I work and sculpt my jewellery, I feed the repeating patterns, geometries and textures of nature into the final form of the piece whether it be through wax carving or chance led processes like sand casting and water casting.
I hope that when you wear my jewellery, you can be reminded of the sublime - and metaphorically bask in the greatness and vastness of it all. For a while when I was searching for meaning I found this sense of the infinite irksome and uncomfortable. I no longer find the concept anything more than a warm blanket I can wrap myself in when I need to be reminded of how incredible it all is. I urge you to try and find the awe that is captured within the sentiment that we are made of stardust. Every atom that is your being, was forged in a supernovae explosion and have come together to form you right here, right now. We are literal stardust, living infinitely complex lives atop a rocky planet in the tail end of a spiral galaxy and isn't that just wonderful!
As you encounter my work and discover its depths I want you to be reminded that there is a greatness beyond all possibility and measure that exists within you. We are all part of Mother Nature.
